Forming process flow forming

Flow forming is an innovative forming technology of seamless, tubular components. The tooling is being brought to rotation with a work piece and is being loaded with three rollers so that the material can flow in axial direction. Thus a long thin-walled tube, which is being characterized by an improved surface and a very high precision, is being produced of a short thick-walled tube.

Processible materials:

  • 304 / 316 / 310 / ...
  • 15-5PH; 17-4PH
  • steel sheets
  • heat treatable steels
  • fine-grained steels
  • maraging steel
  • aluminium and aluminium alloys
  • titanium and titanium alloys
  • nickel and nickel alloys
  • tantalum, zircon, niobium

Advantages of flow forming in comparison to conventional methods:

  • short delivery times
  • extremely well inner surfaces
  • high dimensional accuracy grades of parts
  • optimal grain structure
  • conical/ weaned wall thicknesses possible
  • manufacturing of parts with integrated flange
  • significantly enhanced mechanical properties
  • attractive prices even for small and middle sized batches
  • a wide range of materials even hardened steels and titanium
  • a high diameter-to-length ratio

Production possibilities:

  • round hollows bodies Ø 25 – 650 mm
  • length up to 6500 mm
  • wall thickness 0,15 – 20 mm
